Modern Art:  art that revive or renew Western culture by appropriating aspects of non-Western art, often without fully acknowledging the cultural context of the stylistic aspects it incorporates.

Questions:

  • What role does race play in the production and reception of works of art?
  • How much access can one culture have to another?
  • Is it possible to engage with and/or appropriate another culture without stereotyping it?
  • Can notions of tradition and progressive art history incorporate the works of multiple cultures?
